Music
What do you say?
This idea came to me from a friend of a friend. I’m certain there are plenty of these but why not create one here for us on The Riff?
The idea is this:
Someone picks an album (one per month, hence the name).
On the day and time of the meet, that person would then give some background on the album, maybe cultural events that may or may not have influenced it. Think WIKI.
A discussion begins with thoughts about the album and the songs (I must admit I have never been part of a book club, so I don’t know how they operate — I’m winging it here).
Hilarity ensues.
It lasts for +/- 60 minutes, and at the end, someone else will pick an album for the next meeting.
The one rule is that the album must be available to listen to in some form and that you must have listened to the album.
The obvious question is what platform to use. I have the Clubhouse app, but I’m not sure if that is still invite-only. We could use Zoom, but I think the free version of Zoom caps you at a certain number of users and has a time limit. I would REALLY prefer NOT to use any Facebook function. I detest FB, but if there is enough interest and that is the preferred platform, I am willing to bend.
As there are contributors here from everywhere on The Riff, we’ll have to pick a time that works for most, if not all.
This would be an audio-only club, no need to use video. Music is primarily an audio experience anyway.
I don’t wanna pull the trigger on this without there being enough interest. So leave a comment or email me (keithrhiggons@gmail.com) if you’re interested. I’ll try to respond in a reasonable amount of time (a few hours at max).
I’m thinking I would kick it off on Saturday, May 1 provided there are enough people and a general agreement on the platform to use.
