They walked into the house carrying their own baggage.
“But the bars … on the windows!”
“They’re not meant to keep you in.”
They walked around the house.
“But there’s nothing here!”
“Not yet. We can do whatever we want.”
They exchanged a look — mixing fear & happiness.
“I don’t think I’m ready.”
“You’ll never be ready.”
They stopped holding hands.
“Why’s that?”
“It’s not what you want.”
“What if it is?”
“It’s not. We both know that.”
They stared out the window.
“But the bars …”
“You can leave whenever you want.”
