Well, it’s been a fluck of a month around Thunderlove Manor. Come to think of it, a fluck of a year, but you know what they say “That which doesn’t kill you… well, it doesn’t kill you.”
First of all, thank you and welcome to all the new subscribers. I appreciate you taking the time to sign up.
Over the next few weeks or so you’ll see some soft changes moving away from the Abandoned Albums brand. The truth is we began kicking this can around about 18 months ago and after more than a few misfires, I stumbled onto Center Stage: An Abandoned Albums Podcast.
This isn’t some kind of Deloitte re-branding, it’s me sitting in my underwear trying solve the problem of the show having shifted a bit over three years.
For better or worse, and mostly better, the show has changed. Originally conceived as a show about one forgotten album, it has morphed into something different. Now, we could talk about one album or it could be a career retrospective. Or it could be a new artist who may not even have an album out yet.
Our mission remains to keep the recorded work of artists on the cultural radar, and, in some cases, make sure the work of other artists lands on the cultural radar.
If you’ve been an active listener, you know that already.
Also, and this has only happened a couple of times but artists have gotten cranky about the “abandoned” moniker. In fact, a few have politely declined because of the title.
Center Stage captures the essence of highlighting a particular artist, or music professional. It allows us a broader pitch now with not just musicians, but producers, songwriters, writers, business major domo’s, etc.. You get the idea, ya’ll are smart so I don’t need to spell it out for you.
What does this mean?
Nothing. The format of the show is the same, it’s just that the credits are a little different, as you’ll notice next week when we launch Season 10.
Much like I titled The Mix n’ Match Podcast: As Abandoned Albums Podcast, the same is true here. The “abandoned albums” is still kicking around because I wanted to keep my logo (I love that little logo).
This is about as simple as a re-brand can actually get. I think anyway, never done it before.
What about this Substack?
Nothing changes here. Business as usual.
Aren’t there other podcasts titled Center Stage?
Yea, there are.
Won’t people be confused?
Maybe, but I hope not too confused. The truth is people are confused by many things I have no control over.
And as far as social media goes, you’ll see the changes there… eventually. But the truth is, I’m not all that active on the socials (much to my detriment I am certain), and I don’t foresee my social media approach changing too much.
Make no mistake, after three years and over one hundred episodes (and counting) there are no drastic changes.
We’re still “the only music podcast that matters.” ;)
