Thinking
A Thought in 100 Words.
A friend likes to say: “You think you’re a unique snowflake.”
I am.
So is she.
So are you.
There is no one else like me.
Or her.
Or you.
Is everything I do, think, say or feel unique? No.
BUT, it’s unique to me.
So, when someone says: “Everyone thinks that,” “Everyone does that,” or any derivative, it’s dismissive.
Everyone-ism is the subversive cultural attempt to rob people of their agency.
Try saying: “I can appreciate that.”
Or anything that isn’t so reductive as: “Everyone …”.
Don’t dismiss that person as “everyone.”
They’re not everyone.
Neither are you.
