Fleabag Series 1 — on Amazon
Once in awhile a show comes along that is poised to change television. Fleabag is that type of show.

And I was so thrilled with it, I just wanted to throw this out into the ether so people can get hip to it.
All six episodes of the first series are currently streaming on Amazon Prime. This is without question one of the funniest and smartest shows I have seen in a very long time. Imported by Amazon from the UK, it was created by, and stars, British playwright Phoebe Waller-Bridge, as Fleabag, a 30 something young woman trying to navigate not only London but life. Hint: she’s not very good at it.
Now look, I am far from the target demographic for this show.
1. I’m a man.
2. I’m not 30 something.
3. I’m not a woman.
Nonetheless, I still found the droll send-up of the modern age really smart and more often than not, hysterical. And in the end, poignant.
The narrative device of breaking the fourth wall is a slippery slope and in the wrong hands, it can appear contrived and insulting. However, in the right hands, it is both brilliant and original. Fleabag is in the right hands and shatters the fourth wall.
Stream Fleabag now before the likes of one of the big networks gets their greedy little cloven hoofs on it and screws it up ( pretty much like they have done with every British import they’ve attempted to adapt…and yes, that includes The Office.)
