Emmy’s AND Golden Globes, NOW will you watch Fleabag?
Way back in September 2016, I wrote a post about this show that I had watched called Fleabag. I had just finished watching it and banged out the following:
Review: Fleabag on Amazon - Series 1
Once in awhile a show comes along that is poised to change television for the better. Fleabag is that type of show. And…keithrhiggons.com
Despite winning a Peabody Award for that first series, both my note and the show went largely ignored.
Then Phoebe Waller-Bridge went on to land a high-profile role in Goodbye Christopher Robin and a sweet Star Wars franchise role as L3–37 in Solo: A Star Wars Story in addition to creating Emmy winner Killing Eve.
Then a second series of Fleabag dropped and I wrote about that:
Review: Fleabag on Amazon — Series 2
Now that the show has won a bunch of Emmy’s will you watch it?medium.com
Again I blathered on about the shows intelligence. Some paid attention.
Then it won some Emmy’s and people started watching.
With only the Screen Actors Guild Awards left — Fleabag is up for three, Ensemble in a Comedy, Female Actor for Phoebe Waller-Bridge as “Fleabag” and Male Actor for Andrew Scott as “Priest” — I’m not sure what more I could possibly do to get you to watch it.
And here’s hoping Scott wins, his performance is nothing short of brilliant.
No, it’s not gonna be for everybody. If you’re lookin’ for bland/broad humor and a laugh track to tell you when to laugh, Fleabag isn’t your thing.
If you don’t mind frank talk about sex and feelings, mental health, sexual equality and breaking the fourth wall, you may want to watch it.
Well written, smart and wonderfully acted by everyone, I’m not sure what more I can say to get you to watch the fookin’ show.
Fleabag ends on a note of brilliance, so if you watch both series, you’ll know not to expect a third…and it’s perfection.
