Interesting take on these songs. Not entirely sure I agree will all but enjoyed the read nonetheless. I always read/listen to anything by John Lennon during this period as more sarcastic and cheeky than serious.

Also, as Judy McLain points out, LS was from Jacksonville, FL and not Birmingham. You can see explanations about the “Govn’or” line in both their Behind the Music and in the doc 20 Feet From Stardom. Also, it’s said that the line about Neil Young was in reference to his song “Southern Man” ergo the line in their song “A Southern Man don’t need him around anyhow.”

Good stuff though.
