Asking for a friend
I’ve not read the book of Exodus, but is this hellscape the rapture?
Let’s recap some of what’s happening (that we know of):
COVID-19 is still going strong.
Almost 200,000 Americans are dead as a result.
There is zero government relief for the millions suffering.
The west coast is burning.
Protests are taking place daily around the country.
Global Warming is exacerbating …everything.
The National Hurricane Center reported five tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Basin for September — the highest since 1971.
As much as I would like to blame everything that’s currently happening on President Orange Marmalade, I can’t.
Natural disasters aren’t his fault …his ignorance about science is his fault.
The pandemic is not his fault …his devilishly inept response is.
A gender reveal party setting the west coast on fire is not his fault …his lack of empathy and comprehension is.
However, he is the man in the big chair in the oval office, and the buck should stop with him. Knowing what we know about him, we all know he’ll pass that buck.
Let’s be honest, if we’ve learned anything over the past ten years of the Trump presidency (I know, it’s only been about four, it just feels like ten), we’ve learned that Donald Trump is no member of MENSA.
It, therefore, isn’t a secret Donald Trump lacks the intellectual capacity to be POTUS. He also lacks the leadership skills, foresight, judgment, temperament, and any semblance of empathy (it’s a very long list) to hold the office he has. By any measure known to man, Donald Trump is unfit to be the President of the United States.
And yet, here we are.
If you judge a leader by the people they surround themselves with, well, that also says a lot about Trump. The degree of sycophantic ineptitude surrounding him has got to be unparalleled in world history and is steering the country towards some apocalyptic failure.
The revolving door installed in the West Wing has resulted in a cavalcade of unqualified eedjits and Trump supporters securing high-level cabinet positions. They’ve slithered their way past any vetting process to replace the very few adults that were in the building.
We can’t forget that in just a few weeks, we’ll be choosing between two old white men. President Donald Trump is 74, and Democratic Nominee Joe Biden is 77.
These two would’ve aged out of being a Walmart greeter by now …and they’re running for President of the United States.
“Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.” — Samuel Johnson
I like being an American, most of the time. I’m no flag-waving patriot, but it’s a decent place. To paraphrase Bill Clinton: “All that is wrong with America can be fixed by all that is right with it.” I honestly, perhaps naively, believe that. Still.
Now, for all of Donald Trump’s transparent patriotic bloviating in 2016 about “Making America Great Again” and making the country “#1,” you have to admit, he did make the United States #1 …not necessarily in anything you’d want to be #1 in.
The United States is #1 in:
Putting People in Jail — Thirty-six of our states also have higher incarceration rates than any country in the world.
Jorts — yep, jean shorts — Americans search Google for “jorts” three times as much as Canadians, and ten times as much as Brits. Take THAT China!
Military Spending — almost $700 billion for the US versus a combined $320 billion for the rest of the world.
Spending more on Scotch — France drinks and imports more than the US …but naturally, we spend more.
Watching TV — Americans watch an average of 293 minutes of television a day.
And guns — Always guns.
In 2020, Donald Trump and his league of idiots and pseudo-patriots came up with the incredibly unimaginative and derivative, albeit concise, “Keep America Great” for their campaign slogan.
I don’t know, but if those above #1’s define great, count me out.
But Joe Biden doesn’t get any props for his slew of slogans:
Restore The Soul of America
Our best days still lie ahead
This is America
We are America, second to none.
Anything is possible
No Malarkey!
Build Back Better
Unite for a Better America
Did Don Draper come up with those?
Now, if you’re reading this and thinking: “If you don’t like it, get out of ‘Merica! Why don’t you leave?”
BECAUSE I CAN’T!
Trump’s unbelievable bumbling of the COVID-19 pandemic has made it impossible for Americans to go anywhere. Well, anywhere you’d want to go. Here’s a list of some of the countries Americans can visit:
Albania
Croatia
Brazil (yea, that’s a solid vacation spot about now)
North Macedonia
Serbia
While there are some lovely places (Bermuda, Jamaica, Kokomo) we can travel to, according to Travel and Leisure, ALL of the countries have AT LEAST a “Level 3 — Reconsider Travel” warning.
“The government you elect is the government you deserve.” — Thomas Jefferson
Kind of makes you wonder WTF we did in 2016 to get here.
It could be argued that Donald Trump won the 2016 election by securing the “anti-Hillary” vote. It’s possible that Joe Biden could slide into the White House on the “anti-Trump” vote …however, I don’t know. No one does.
It’s still much too close to call one way or another. We’re in for a nail biter.
The BBC published an article that breaks everything down to the battleground states:
The latest polling, according to this BBC News article, does have Joe Biden leading in the majority of these battleground states. BUT, that lead of Biden’s is within the polling margin of error for all but THREE of these states — Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin (and even those are close).
My point? Yes, Joe Biden is leading in the polls, that is true …but it’s not the complete story.
Gird your loins, folks.
I remain unconvinced that the American electorate will see Trump for what he is — a horrible President, a narcissist, a charlatan, and, well, again, this list is long and none of the adjectives are kind.
If Trump loses, and he leaves office, one term won’t be enough to correct what he’s done. It doesn’t matter who it was/will be; one term won’t be enough to fix what Trump has systematically destroyed. Trump, in conjunction with the personification of pure evil himself — Mitch McConnell — has discombobulated so much and moved the needle so far from any sense of normalcy, for us to expect a swift return to “normal.”
Of course, the question then becomes: Is Joe Biden better? Yea. I guess. But that’s not saying a whole lot because a box of nails would be better.
BUT, another four years of Donald Trump could spell the end of days for the United States.
A study from Nashville-based LifeWay Research found that “almost 9 in 10 pastors see at least some current events matching those Jesus said would occur shortly before he returns to Earth.”
All of this begs the question:
Is this the end of days?
Please vote on November 4.
