A Story in 100 Words
They walked into the courthouse.
The woman behind the counter asked: “May I help you?”
“We need a license, ma’am.”
“What for?”
The young woman excitedly said: “We wanna have a baby!”
The woman smiled and took off her glasses, knowing what they were asking: “Sugar, you don’t need a marriage license for that.”
They looked puzzled.
The woman held their attention: “You only need love to have a child.” She studied them: “And no one cares about that color nonsense no more.”
He nodded: “Yes, ma’am.”
They walked out of the courthouse.
The tires of their car were slashed.
