On August 19, 1980, I saw Black Sabbath and Blue Öyster Cult on their co-headlining tour — for years, I said this was my first concert.

In 1985, Tipper Gore and friends formed The Parents Music Resource Center with one goal — placing a “Parental Advisory” sticker on albums they deemed “offensive.”

Congressional hearings were held. 
Dee Snider and Frank Zappa testified, but John Denver testified.

John Denver gave the sharpest testimony. He made it clear that he was opposed to any kind of censorship.

On April 21, 1978, I saw the mild-mannered badass — John Denver was my first concert.
