“It seems loving you was the easy part.”
The machines beeped.
“But we didn’t have that much time, did we? We should’ve had more time together.”
The nurse held in a sneeze.
“Nothing about this feels right,” she said.
“So, there’s no hope?”
“There is no brain activity …” the doctor continued as the nurse caught her eye & she shook her head left to right.
“Right. So is it really a plug?”
“No, it’s a power switch.”
“Hmm,” she pointed: “This one?”
“Yes.”
She turned it off.
It took a minute for his heart to stop.
Hers already had.
