Bass players can get a bum wrap.
But you can’t put a bum wrap on Matt Patton. This guy has an unparalleled work ethic.
He’s a member of:
Drive-By Truckers
Laura Jane Grace and the Mississippi Medicals
The Dexateens
Model Citizen
When he’s not busy with one of those bands, he runs a studio, Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, Mississippi and a record label under the same banner. Patton has dedicated himself to nurturing the Southern music scene and Dial Back Sound is where artists from all over come to capture the authenticity and grit that Southern music is known for.
Patton’s more than just a musician and entrepreneur, he’s a cultural steward of Southern rock.
His basslines are the driving force behind whatever band he’s in, weaving grooves that are both thunderous and understated. Whether anchoring a raucous anthem or adding subtle texture to a heartfelt ballad, his playing reflects a deep understanding of musical storytelling.
What sets Matt Patton, apart from his benchmark smile, is his seamless blend of technical skill and soulful expression. His presence always adds a layer of raw energy that complements the band.
Whether on stage or behind the mixing board, Patton remains a vital force in keeping Southern rock alive and evolving.
Matt Patton proves that authenticity and craftsmanship still matter in a world where music can feel disposable.
