Mary looked at Lucas and knew he was in thought. She smiled.
At times she wanted him closer. Deliberate or not, she kept him at bay.

Tonight was a night she wanted him closer, much closer.
The two shared an odd sense of understanding …but understanding nonetheless.
Still smiling, she nodded: “I understand.”
Mary stood, grabbed his hand, and led Lucas into the bedroom.
