So, if your first time hearing it was in the film, what'd you think? Did it distract you (in a good way) at all from the dialogue, or were you riveted to Nic Cage and his lady, and The 'Souls were just, at the time, just sort of background noise, and you discovered the song a little more a little later?
Watching it now, it makes me laugh to think you could have a riveting conversation as those two did in a “quiet” club! You have to suspend your disbelief that a band will keep it down so that people can talk!!
And, a band is there to be nothing but noticed, and not talked over or around....as you well know! But, that's the movie-maker's dilemma: Advance the narrative, but we've paid a band to play during! I'm always fascinated how music makes it into a film....was the director a Plimsouls fan? Did he know Jeff Eyrich? Or, did someone propose the song, and it was cheaper than a Led Zeppelin song?!?
