Thank you thank you thank you! Boomtown remains one of my very favorites. Every song is an all-star.

Also, I think it's "handsome Cullen" instead of "handsome Kevin" in the lyrics you printed unless I've been hearing it wrong all these years!

Can we keep it "handsome Kevin," though? I mean...

Wow... I’d forgotten this one until I saw this and went OMG YES! Great song on a great album but the thing that grabbed me was the vocal track... this was back before pitch correction was on everything, and the vocal is amazing. Pitch, nuance, tone, expressiveness. Everything landed perfectly. (Who knows how many takes it took to get that, but the end result was a thing of beauty). Thanks!

Thanks Ken! I'd love to find out. I've trying to get a hold of one of them to chat about the albums... but so far, no luck. But I'm tenacious, so I hope to have an answer for you. :)

Probably a question best left unasked... the result was magical, so let the magic remain.

The imagery is amazing to me... and captures that mid-80's vibe so well.

Great piece on an album I missed, as I was finishing my career-changing college stint in '86. As I'm sure you've checked, David B. is on FB (https://www.facebook.com/dbaerwald), and shares 10 friends with me! News that doesn't help you in the slightest, I realize, but I'm willing to bet, if you DM him with a pitch (and a link to this piece), he might respond positively. All he can say is "no."

I've had good luck in the past asking artists about records of theirs I've written about. In fact, I've just dropped a question or two, and they've answered! Once they do that, I've had good luck in engaging them for a longer Q&A! Here's a good example....my FB/DM interview with Gary Myrick: https://bradkyle.substack.com/p/he-talks-in-stereo-part-1-singerguitarist Good luck!

I suspect you might. haha I saw your name pop up recently and I was in the process of drafting an email to you. I would LOVE to have you on my podcast to chat about your career if you were open to it. I have your email, and I'll drop you a brief email right now. It'll be from Keith @ abandoned albums. Man, thank you for even just this brief note.

Can't believe Boomtown is almost 40 yrs old! Jumped on this album when it first came out in '86 and it sounds as musically fresh today as it did then. There are very few albums that have that kind of sustain. Along with his superb and underappreciated Triage, Baerwald's music remains some of my favorite listening and I go back to it as much if not more than anything else in my collection.

It really is a great album that captures a certain kind of mood with all of the characters. I agree that his solo work is egregiously overlooked.
