As a fellow Southern Rock fan, I was thrilled when this came out. It’s a very solid piece of music that holds up well, and I was saddened when the band broke up.
While this is somewhat off-topic, since we're talking about Southern Rock, I wanted to highlight a new song I recently ran across which sounds like some great lost Southern Rock track from the 70s. I've listened to Jett Holden's "Feels Like Home" about 100 times in the last month and already ordered his premiere album. https://youtu.be/9FYqOIYHOgk?si=R6tvJV8ei-H_AWlK
OK, I am not well versed in this genre of music, but I went to Spotify and imagine my disappointment when I found that the album is not streaming! (although the followup This Is The Way is.) Anyway, they did have a best of compilation so I listened to that and I'll be honest, it really took me back. Thanks for putting this on my radar - a radar that is pretty much all pop all the time.
You're welcome! Thanks for the note. I'm surprised it's not on Spotify, you might find it on YouTube. That'd be a shame if it's not available anywhere. If you use "Don't Misunderstand Me" as your entry point, I feel like your pop sensibilities may be satisfied. ;) Thanks again!
I was a big fan of this album and I wondered if my love of Skynyrd didn't push this album a little above the credit it was due. I was rooting for them and it still has some great moments. I even like The Allen Collins Band's lone release in '83, but by then, southern rock was on life support - at least for a while.
Great piece! I'm working on a big southern rock feature that's coming out in a few weeks (I bring up this album, in fact), and this is some true inspiration!
Awesome! I look forward to reading that. And I agree, the genre was definitely on life support by then. I feel like because it it has the word "southern" in it, the genre itself doesn't receive the props it deserves. Some of the musicianship, especially Lynyrd Skynyrd, gets overlooked. Thanks for the note and I am looking forward to your feature!

It really does hold up well as a solid representative of the genre. Thanks!

Thanks! Will definitely check it out.
That was fun-thanks! I bought that album with my lawn-mowing money when it came out and I still have it.
