This is Polka 101.
You’ll learn all you thought that you didn’t need to know about what is legitimately one of the most fun genres in music.
This is DJ Shotski.
She’ll be our guide during this episode:
DJ Shotski’s love of polka is as genuine and real as a Wisconsin winter.
If you can’t listen to this episode and smile, we can’t be friends.
Now I wasn’t entirely unfamiliar with Polka. When I lived in Minnesota, as a kid, I went to more than one wedding reception at a VFW. After everyone was all good and boozed-up (I was gacked out on soda), the DJ would start throwing out some mad Polka jams. Ain’t nothing like an upper Midwestern wedding reception at a VFW with tipsy middle-aged folks dancing off their gin.
My memories of Polka are all happy.
This is a genre of music unlikely to spawn any sub-genres like Norweigan Death-Polka.
At this point, don’t worry if you don’t know what a “shotski” is. Don’t Google it, and don’t overthink it, but you will have to listen to find out.
If you dig this episode, and you will, then I would encourage you to head over to Shotski’s Lodge. There may still be a bit of a chill in the air, but there’s always something hot goin’ on at the lodge:
